Transitioning to an Agency

When you have more work than you can handle, it's time to scale. Hiring subcontractors, building systems, and delegating without losing quality.

The difference between a freelancer and an agency owner is that one trades time for money and the other trades systems for money.

What you'll learn

When to hireSubcontractor vs employeeSystems & SOPsDelegation & quality control

The trigger: you're turning down good work, or you're working 60+ hours and burning out. If both are true, it's time to scale.

Start with subcontractors (1099) instead of employees (W-2). Less risk, more flexibility. Convert to employees when the relationship is proven.

Document everything in SOPs before hiring. If it's not documented, you can't delegate it. Your first hire should be trained by your SOPs, not by you.

Quality control checklist: define output standards, do a review period for every new subcontractor, have a feedback loop, and sunset underperformers quickly.
